As an ELA teacher, my goal is to instill a love of reading in each of my students. I achieve this goal by giving kids the opportunity to choose what they read throughout the year. Over the course of the school year, every student in my class will read a minimum of 15 books from a variety of genres.
In order to provide choices for my students, I need to have a ton of books. This is why we have an ongoing book drive. Students can bring in gently-used books and donate them to the class library. Each time they donate a book, they score a point for their class period. At the end of each term I tally the total number donated from each class, and the group with the highest number wins donuts!
